Ambucs Playgrounds

From 1998-2008 we raised over $650,000 with even more in in-kind donations, and municiple support to build three play areas in existing city parks. The playgrounds are designed to be nearly 100% accessible - but more than that they are incredibly interactive!

Playground For Everyone

This 10,000 square foot playground located inside Winter Park (900 E. Winter Ave.) was designed around nearly 100% accessability. The equipment is designed so that disabled children can play on the equipment - not just roll up and sit on it.

When thinking of a playground our thoughts often turn to the carefree play of children, but playgrounds are for adults too. Parents and grandparents actively involved with their children often accompany them to the playground. The AMBUCS Playground for Everyone will allow adults, regardless of their abilities, another opportunity to be involved with their children, breaking down one more barrier, and helping build strong family ties.

AMBUCS raised the funds, assisted with some construction and worked with Boundless Playground to develop the design. Once the playground was finished the City of Danville assumed responsibility for maintenance. AMBUCS will remain involved by providing volunteer services and financial support if required to assist the Danville Parks Department in the upkeep of the playground.

Independence Playground

We had so much fun doing the first playground, we just couldn't stop! This playground features they same approach, but with different equipment in a different setting - Lincoln Park (1000 Logan Avenue).

As with the Playground for Everyone, this playground is designed around enabling disabled children to play on the equipment - not just roll up and sit on it.

The AMUBCS Independence Playground is much smaller and does not include a water feature. It is however nestled nicely in the trees of a beautiful centrally located Park.

As with our first playground - AMBUCS raised the funds, assisted with some construction and worked with Boundless Playground to develop the design. Once the playground was finished the City of Danville assumed responsibility for maintenance. AMBUCS will remain involved by providing volunteer services and financial support if required to assist the Danville Parks Department in the upkeep of the playground.

Sprayground

Having fun in the water!

The Danville Municiple Swimming Pool at Garfield Park is home to our newest playground - The Sprayground for Everyone. It is a zero-depth water-play area accessible to all people, regardless of their abilities.

So many children have enjoyed the water features at the AMBUCS Playground for Everyone we thought we would try to create an entirely water based playground. It also seemed like a good way to assist the City of Danville with the municiple pool.

As with the Playground for Everyone, this playground is designed around enabling disabled children to play in the water - not just roll up and sit in it.

AMBUCS raised the funds, assisted with some construction [well, OK, we unloaded a truck] and worked with a number of contractors to develop the design. Once the playground is finished the City of Danville will assume responsibility for maintenance. AMBUCS will remain involved by providing volunteer services and financial support if required to assist the Danville Parks Department in the upkeep of the playground.
